Behind the Lens

Hi, I’m Steve!

I am a wildlife photographer based in Ontario, Canada. I was brought up in the north but primarily lived in a southern city. At an early age, I developed a passion for the wilderness and wildlife. My primary inspiration is my father who we lost two years ago.

Canoes and cottages were part of my life from an early age. Time in the north is spent roaming and reasoning. I focused on the wisdom nature decided to share and learned more from being in the forest than I did in the classroom.

As we age, we start to reflect on our life. It wasn’t until recently that I decided to publicly share my passion of writing, photography, and painting. That reflection I refer to was generated out of a need to rebalance my life as my family and I matured. I established new goals and priorities.

It was a time to enjoy life. A move away from the daily grind that consumes us. I have written a lot about this reset and I continue to look for ways to find a harmonious balance in my life.

The more time I spend in nature, the more wondrous it becomes. Many people, busy with the complexity of their lives, struggle to experience it. I hope to capture and share unique perspectives of our world that may help others feel the wonder I feel in the wild.

Photography is my primary. It does much more than capture pictures. It creates images. They inspire change and brings us together into a community for conservation. I believe in the power of an image to move people’s minds and souls and use my images to spark a passion for protecting our natural world.

Central to my photography pursuit is the ethical consideration of wildlife. My photography practices respect and conserves nature. It is guided by principles that prioritize the well-being and preservation of wildlife and educating others on how to capture natural images responsibly.

I’m excited to share this journey with you. Please feel free to visit and browse my website and related social media platforms. Share your comments and send me your questions. Thank you for stopping by.

In May 2023, I was privileged to take part in a Canada Jay banding in Algonquin Park. It’s part of a continuing study of Canada Jays conducted by Algonquin, and the University of Guelph, that has been in place for over 50 years.
